The «Accademia della Follia», Academy of Madness, was created and developed during the period of the psychiatric transformation movement in Trieste as a theatrical and cultural project within which actors at risk, (suffering from a psychiatric disorder and social stigma), engage and perform within the structure of the theatrical company. The company, for more than 30 years, works towards research and experiments in order to produce paths and techniques for theatrical formation, live shows, film documentaries, music video clips, self produced but also working in collaboration with other institutions and entities. From the year 2007 most of the company’s theatrical productions are supported and coproduced by the Politeama Rossetti, one of the most important theaters in Italy.
In the 2011 the company was awarded the «Medal for Merit in the Arts, Culture and Entertainment » by the President of the Italian Republic for the Project Extravagância, realized in Brazil. In 2022 the Italian Ministry of Culture recognised the private archives of both Claudio Misculin (the companies founder) and of Accademia della Follia as of high cultural, artistic and social value for national history.
